Class 2600




2600 Class
The 2600 Class or “Arrow” 2 car units were built in 1993 by Tokyu Car Corporation of Yokohama Japan.
They are powered by a Cummins NTA855 of 350hp using hydraulic 3 stage transmission by Niigata.
All 17 cars bought entered service in May/June 1994 being 8x2 car units and a spare (2609).
The cars are designated DC1 or DC2 type DC1 are odd numbered units and seat 58 and are fitted with toilets whereas type DC2 are evenly numbered and seat 71.
At one time the 'spare' was paired with car 2716 from class 2700 and ran as a hybrid for some time.
The units when introduced were used exclusively on the Dublin-Kildare “Arrow” service but often found themselves on the Western Suburban services.
Since January 2010 the units have been working services from Cork Kent Station.
