CIE 101Class (B) A1A-A1A

101 Class (B) A1A-A1A
Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company built these 12 locomotives in 1956 utilising 12 Sulzer 6LDA28 960hp diesel engines which had been in store by CIE for some time.
In fact these diesel engines were originally intended for 6 large double diesel locomotives of 1820hp, the order for which was cancelled.
The resultant locomotives had a low axle weight which gave them universal route availability and they could be found all over the network.
First withdrawal was B111 in 1969.
The rest were taken out of service around 1976, the last going in1978, when the batch of 071s cascaded the 141 and 181s to their duties.
The B101s were put into store officially being withdrawn in1984
